GCIC attends the MSCI‘s seminar The Evolution of Climate Investing

On November 2, 2022, GCIC attended a remote seminar hosted by MSCI titled The Evolution of Climate Investing. The purpose of this webinar was to anticipate issues brought on by the climate crisis in regards to the investment sector, and how investors can help companies reach net-zero emission goals. In particular, the seminar talked about the benefits of participating and assisting in the transition towards sustainable investing in comparison to divesting, the importance of investors in engaging with their companies to solve issues and work towards a greener future, and a wide array of solutions to client needs.

Speakers in this event included Neeraj Kumar, Executive Director of New Product Research at MSCI, Juha Venäläinen, Senior Portfolio Manager at Ilmarinen, and Julien Grolée, Program Manager at IIGCC. Particular attention was drawn towards MSCI’s Climate Action Indexes, and their benefits regarding investor objectives, preferences, as well as portfolio creation for asset managers, and the risks and rewards of investing versus divesting.

GCIC was very optimistic about this seminar, as it continues the trend that we have observed recently of the investment and asset management sectors shifting towards a focus on sustainable investing and how its investors and managers can shift their actions and their assets towards a safe, long-term and green direction. We look forward to seeing other sectors making this transition and sharing solutions about how to become more sustainable and green in the future.
