GCIC attended the seminar-Creating a Greener Future for IT

On November 18th, GCIC attended the remote seminar titled “Creating a Greener Future for IT.” Hosted by Pure Storage EMEA and based on the 2021 Pure Storage ESG Report, the webinar features both past and current Pure Storage experts speaking with regard to data centers and energy conservation. 

Speakers for the webinar include Pia Heidenmark Cook, former Chief Sustainability Officer at IKEA and Pure Storage, Vincent Pommier, Partner Solutions Evangelist of Pure Storage, Jutta Graefensteiner, Digital and Sustainability Director at CISCO Germany, and Jeff Pickett, Product Marketing Manager at FlashArray and Expansion and Sustainability Expert at Pure Storage. The seminar began by discussing the energy requirements for data centers worldwide, as well as the implications of the growing demand for data acquisition, processing, and storage. The primary objective of the webinar was to discuss methods of reducing energy requirements for data centers, using methods such as choosing reliable products with longer service lives to reduce costs and energy, innovations that simultaneously reduce carbon footprint and increase productivity, as well as the links between sustainable business practices and company success.

GCIC looks forward to seeing the effects of this webinar, as the rising demand for data in this day and age is undeniable, and with data centers already taking up 1% of all energy consumption across the globe, finding new ways to reduce energy expenditure would be greatly beneficial to combating climate change.
