GCIC attended the remote seminar titled ‘Nature-Based Investing: The Role of Biodiversity and Nature Capital’

On November 22nd, GCIC attended the remote seminar titled “Nature-Based Investing: The Role of Biodiversity and Nature Capital.” Hosted by Responsible Investor Webinars and MSCI, the webinar explains why biodiversity is worth paying attention to by investors, primary issues that require effort in combating the biodiversity crisis, and new innovations that could help the financial sector in defeating these challenges.

Speakers in this event include Vian Sharif, Founder of NatureAlpha, Alexis Gazzo, Europe West Sustainability Co-Leader at EY, Liudmilla Strakodonskaya, ESG Analyst and Biodiversity Leader at AXA Investment Managers, Arne Klug, Director of Biodiversity Research at MSCI, and Ben Payton, Special Projects Editor at Responsible Investor. Topics of the seminar include discussing the impact of nature in the global economy, ranging from the use of natural resources to produce manufactured goods to the recycling of carbon emissions by natural ecosystems. Some questions discussed during the seminar include how investors account for nature-related risks in their portfolios, how they measure the impact of their portfolios on nature, and how the upcoming COP15 meeting in Montreal might affect the investment sector.

GCIC is glad to see that the investment community continues to take nature, biodiversity, and the environment as a serious consideration in their actions and decisions. We look forward to seeing the developments from this seminar and hopefully see more investors take more environmentally-friendly actions in the future.
