On November 23rd, GCIC attended the remote seminar titled “Making Climate Change Usable for Risk Managers.” Hosted by JBA Risk Management, this session particularly focuses on JBA’s recent research on climate change in regards to flooding around the world. The webinar discusses future risk of flooding and its potential effects, as well as the ability to apply climate change science to the work of risk managers in collecting and utilizing data.
The panel featured speakers including Dr. Ashleigh Massam, Senior Analyst and Process Architect at JBA Risk Management, Dr. Emma Raven, Climate Change Technical Lead at JBA, Dr. Dave Leedal, Hydrology Technical Lead at JBA, and Judith Ellison, Climate Change Commercial Lead at JBA. Serving as host is insurance industry commentator Ant Gould.

GCIC is glad to see further discussion in the area of hydrology and flooding in regards to climate change, as it is a major concern on our part especially considering the devastating floods that have swept through Pakistan in the past few months. GCIC has already mobilized to provide assistance, but we hope that discussions like these will help to stop flooding-related problems before they begin, and lead to better response protocols and preparations.
